This picture shows the crew of the schooner Bowdoin, a wooden vessel built in 1921 in Maine for Donald B. MacMillan's Arctic voyages and named for his alma mater, Bowdoin College. The print was made around 1922 by McDougall & Keefe of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, a local studio that served the coastal shipping and fishing trade. The record's identifications come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified, so the individual sailors are not named here. The photograph still offers a useful glimpse of the working men who sailed the Bowdoin on northern expeditions in the early 1920s.
