The only identifying information for this glass negative is its title, Franklin Roosevelt, which the Bain News Service recorded from its own caption cards and which has not been independently verified. George Grantham Bain's New York agency supplied newspapers and magazines with pictures of public figures in the early twentieth century, so the image likely belongs to that news-photo tradition. Roosevelt's public career spanned those years, from his service as assistant secretary of the Navy to his presidency, so the negative probably records one of several stages in that career. Without a date, though, the specific occasion remains unknown.
