Rupert García's 1991 screen print takes its name from the yellow hand in its title, a detail that sets it apart from the other Columbus images in the collection. This impression is numbered 40 of an edition of 100. García, a Chicano artist from California known for politically charged printmaking, made it in 1991, the 500th anniversary of Columbus's 1492 voyage to the Americas, when the explorer's legacy was hotly debated. The work's bold color invites viewers to weigh that history rather than simply celebrate it.
