The green lettering on this 1917 French lithograph announces its purpose: a appeal on behalf of the Foyer du Soldat Aveugle, or home for blind soldiers. The image shows a blind serviceman embraced by children, a sentimental scene that matches the poster's listed themes of blind veterans, children, and hugging. Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer, the symbolist painter whose signature appears on the sheet, made it while France was caring for many men blinded in combat or by gas. Posters like this asked the public to give money directly to that care.
