The slogan promises triumph to those who subscribe, a direct appeal to ordinary French citizens to lend their savings to the state. By 1918, France was financing the war largely through a series of national loans, and posters like this one, pasted on walls and in public squares, were a main tool for persuading families that buying a bond was a patriotic duty as well as an investment. The phrase "Pour le triomphe" ties that financial sacrifice to victory, a theme that grew more urgent as the final year of fighting wore on.
