Broad Street Station, the Pennsylvania Railroad's passenger terminal in Philadelphia, is the subject here, and the poster's title makes a bold claim for it: "America's grandest railway terminal." The color lithograph was printed by the Century Litho. Co. for the New York publishers Miller & More around 1893, when railroads competed hard for travelers and handsome stations were a way to win their loyalty. The station opened in 1881 and served the company's main line into the city. The poster is as much a piece of promotion as a picture of a building, so it is worth reading the imagery and the boast together.
