This hand-colored etching shows the Old South church and the large square in front of it, seen through the eyes of an Augsburg engraver, Francois Xavier Habermann. The title calls the building the Old South Presbyterian church, though it was really the Congregational Old South Meeting House, a place where large town meetings were held before the Revolution. The record suggests a date around 1778, while the war was underway, so the print shows how European publishers pictured the city from afar. Its coloring adds detail to the street life around the square.

Medium1 print : etching, hand-colored.
