Interior photographs of Yellowstone's souvenir shops are far rarer than views of its geysers and hotels, which makes this look inside H.E. Klamer's curio store unusual. The Detroit Photographic Company, which issued the print around 1909, was known for its photochrom views of western scenery, sold to tourists as keepsakes. Park curio shops of this era often stocked mineral specimens, petrified wood, and Indigenous-made baskets and beadwork, and visitors arriving by rail and stagecoach bought these goods as reminders of their trip. The picture shows how crowded shelves and counters would have greeted a traveler of the period.
