This poster promotes the Sells Brothers' "enormous united shows" with a lineup that includes a "wonderful Snow White," a zebu (a humped cattle breed), and a riding peacock, a mix of exotic animals and novelty acts that circus advertising of the day leaned on. Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati and New York printed many such posters. Chromolithographs like this one, built from separate stone or plate impressions in bright color, were the main way traveling shows announced themselves in towns across the country before the film era. The image gives a good sense of how these shows sold spectacle to small-town audiences in the 1890s.
