A young child lies asleep on a rug made from a wolf's pelt, with the animal's head and fur spread beneath the sleeper. The record dates the print to about 1900 to 1910 and credits Fritz W. Guerin as photographer, though those details come from an unverified caption card. Sentimental scenes of children were popular in that period, and wolf skins were common decorative furnishings in American homes and studios, often taken from animals hunted as wolves were being driven out of much of the country. The picture reflects domestic taste as much as it shows the child.
