The Temple of the Little Heads takes its name from the rows of small carved heads and skulls on its stone platform, a striking feature of Chichen Itza, the Maya city in Yucatan, Mexico. The city flourished roughly between the seventh and twelfth centuries, and its ruins have drawn visitors and photographers for generations. This 1932 view is credited to Laura Gilpin, an American photographer best known for her work in the American Southwest. The date and attribution come from an older caption card and have not been independently verified.
