Driver Dan Mace holds the reins of Prospero here, and the title's record of 2:20 marks the time the horse covered a mile on the trotting track. His sire was Duroc, and Duroc traces back to Henry Clay, pedigree names that carried weight with trotting fans of the day. Currier & Ives issued this hand-colored lithograph in New York in 1877, one of many sporting prints the firm made for a public eager for images of racing and driving.
