Geisha gather for a musical performance in this color woodcut, with a shamisen, the three-stringed lute, at the center of the scene. The print is a two-page section of a book called *Kakuchū enpu*, which the Library of Congress dates to 1803 but places no earlier than 1806 in its printing history. Library staff devised the title, and the print appeared in the 2001 exhibition *The Floating World of Ukiyo-e*, which focused on the woodblock prints of Japanese city pleasure quarters and their performers.
