A 1973 Berkeley poster for Buster Keaton's 1926 silent comedy *The General* puts the railroad front and center, and the film does the same. Keaton plays a Southern railroad engineer caught up in the Civil War, and the story draws on the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862, when Union raiders stole a Confederate engine in Georgia and were chased down the tracks. The color poster was designed by David Lance Goines for the Pacific Film Archive, which screened the film. Its record lists railroads among its subjects, a fitting label for a movie built around a train.
