Printed in Paris for the American Red Cross, this color lithograph carries a French title, "L'Amitié des États-Unis," or "The Friendship of the United States," and it was issued under visa no. 12, the wartime approval number French authorities required on posters. Its subjects point to the American flag and to the medical side of the war, which reflects the Red Cross's work in France after the United States entered the conflict in 1917. The record dates it only to between 1914 and 1918, so it likely reflects the period when Franco-American cooperation was being promoted to the public.
