The only identifying detail in the record is the title "Pierce," which the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the Library of Congress notes that it is unverified. This is a glass negative of 4 by 5 inches or smaller, dated between 1918 and 1920, when the company was photographing people, streets and events in Washington, D.C., and beyond. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural breakdown of its original coating, so they are part of the object's history. The negative came to the Library as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947.
