This glass negative records a Washington Senators ballplayer identified in the catalog as William Nicholas Snyder (1891-1934), with the surname Snyder as its title. The Senators were the American League club in the nation's capital, and in the years around 1918 to 1920 the National Photo Company made many portraits of players and other local figures for newspapers and the public. The record dates the plate to that span only approximately, and the title comes from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve. The glass shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, which is typical of plates from this period.
