Braves Field, opened in 1915 in Allston on Boston's western edge, was for decades the largest ballpark in the major leagues, and this view shows it as the home of the Boston Braves before the team moved to Milwaukee in 1953. The park was built for the team's owner, James Gaffney, and its enormous outfield and brick-and-concrete grandstand made it a fixture of the city's sporting life. Among the notable details here is the scale of the stands rising around the field, a reminder of how much room the club expected to fill.
