Twenty-six horses pull a single combined harvester through a Washington wheat field in this stereograph, a machine that reaped, threshed and sacked grain in one pass. Large horse-drawn combines like this were used in the dry wheat country of the Pacific Northwest around 1905, when they let a single crew cover acreage that older methods handled far more slowly. The H.C. White Company issued stereo cards such as this one for parlor viewers, so the scene also reflects how farm work was presented to the public.
