A high vantage point gives this c1906 view of the Boston waterfront its sweep, with wharves, piers and harbor traffic laid out below. The subjects listed for the print include side-wheel steamers, which were a familiar sight on the harbor in those years, alongside the ships and docks that handled the port's freight and passengers. The photograph was copyrighted by the Detroit Publishing Co., a firm that produced large numbers of American views around 1900 and 1910, many of them sold as popular souvenir prints. Its cracked negative, noted in the record, is a reminder of how these images passed through many hands before reaching a library collection.
