Here French officers lead their horses to water, a small scene that the George Grantham Bain Collection preserves only through its brief notes. The glass negative comes from Bain News Service, a New York picture agency whose photographs were largely made in the early twentieth century, and its title is unverified, so the place and date remain uncertain.
