This glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection shows horses in Paris that were being taken for military use, as the title indicates. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, supplied news photographs from around the world in the early twentieth century, and its caption cards often carry titles like this one that were written at the time and not checked against other sources. Military requisitioning of civilian horses was a major concern in France during wartime, when cavalry, artillery and supply trains needed large numbers of animals. The record gives no date, so the exact occasion is unconfirmed.
