A chromolithographic cartoon titled "The Elders' Happy Home" takes aim at Mormon plural marriage, and its catalog tags include camels, a sign that the artist leaned on Orientalizing imagery to suggest a harem. The record links it to a Chicago publication of April 18, 1881, pages 8 and 9, so it belongs to the anti-polygamy agitation that peaked in the early 1880s. Congress passed the Edmunds Act in 1882, and the Edmunds-Tucker Act followed in 1887, both aimed at ending the practice. Viewers can compare the satire against the political and moral arguments of the period.
