A Works Progress Administration poster announcing a wood sculpture exhibition in Springfield, Massachusetts, stands apart from the city views on this board. It comes from the Graphic Arts division of the Federal Art Project, which employed artists during the 1930s to design posters for exhibitions, concerts, and public health campaigns. Many of these were made by silkscreen, a method suited to bold flat shapes and limited colors. Notice how the lettering and image work together to catch a passerby's eye from the street.
