The plane in this view is the Ryan monoplane Charles Lindbergh flew solo across the Atlantic from New York to Paris in May 1927, and the picture shows it on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The aircraft, with its high wing and long fuel tank in place of a forward windshield, was a notable sight in a museum setting. Lindbergh's gift of the plane to the Smithsonian in 1928 made it one of the first aviation artifacts shown to the public as a historic object rather than a working machine. The record dates the print only approximately, but the 1920s setting fits the period of the flight's enormous public fame.
