The record gives only the city, so this halftone is best read as a general view of Boston around 1936. Samuel Chamberlain, an etcher and photographer known for his New England subjects, issued copyrighted photoprints like this one in a numbered series; this example is No. 201. Halftone reproduction broke a photograph into a pattern of dots, which let printers make sharp, inexpensive copies in quantity. The exact location is unconfirmed because the caption card was only partly transcribed.
