The setting is Mile Rock Light, a lighthouse on a small rock about a mile off the Golden Gate, which made it an unusual place for a wedding party to pose. The record names the couple as Mr. and Mrs. Ole Olson, vaudeville performers, and dates the print to May 1924. Vaudeville was then one of the most popular forms of stage entertainment in America, touring theaters with a mix of acts. Pictures like this show how performers of the day sometimes turned remote or striking locations into publicity moments, and the lighthouse itself, isolated in open water, gives the scene its unusual character.
