The headline asks a direct question: if you already drive a car at home, why not drive a transport in France? The American Field Service, a volunteer corps that had been sending American men to drive ambulances and supply trucks for the French army since 1914, produced this 1917 lithograph to recruit drivers. The group was made up largely of college men, and the poster was issued as the United States moved toward entering the war. Its three office addresses in Boston, New York and Chicago show how the service sought applicants across the country.
