Three men are named on this glass negative: E.J. Lewis, Chas. C. McChord and J.J. Esch, with a November 14, 1922 date supplied by the National Photo Company and not independently verified. The company photographed officials, visitors and public events in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, and its glass plates make up a large part of the Library of Congress holdings. The streaks and coating loss visible here are signs of the glass deteriorating naturally over time. The negative was a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947.
