Two names, Gempo Yamamoto and Hamabara, and a date of May 4, 1923, are all the record offers for this glass negative, and the company supplied even those details without independent verification. The plate came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947, as part of the National Photo Company's large body of Washington, D.C., studio and press work from the early twentieth century. Expect streaks and blemishes on the surface, the result of natural deterioration in the original coatings, which is common in glass plates of this age.
