Henry F. Ashurst of Arizona is the subject of this glass negative, one of the portraits made by the Bain News Service, a Manhattan photo agency whose work from the early 1900s through the 1910s and 1920s is now held by the Library of Congress. Ashurst was among Arizona's first U.S. senators after the territory became a state in 1912, and he served in the Senate for nearly three decades. The record gives no exact date, and its title comes from caption cards that the Library describes as unverified, so the portrait's exact timing is uncertain.
