Bay Street, where it meets the slopes of Telegraph Hill, places this view on San Francisco's northern waterfront. The record dates the print to 1906, the year the city was struck by a major earthquake and fire in April, which reshaped much of the city and its streets. The catalog notes that its details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified, so the exact date and location should be read with that in mind. The print is part of the William "Billy" Mitchell Collection, and its street-level view offers a glimpse of the neighborhood as it looked in the years around that disaster.
