Labeled "O.D. Boyle" on its negative sleeve, this glass plate is one of the surviving records from a name that the surviving paperwork does not fully explain. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C. commercial studio, made a large body of work between about 1910 and 1926, and its negatives are valued for documenting the people and streets of the capital in those years. The title was recorded by the company but has not been independently verified, so the name is best treated as a lead rather than a settled fact. The streaks and blemishes across the plate come from natural deterioration of the original coating, which is worth keeping in mind when looking at the image.
