The title survives only as a fragment, "Montgomer," which most likely refers to a place or person named Montgomery, though the label supplied by the National Photo Company has not been verified. The negative belongs to the company's large body of Washington-area work, made in the 1910s and early 1920s, when the firm recorded streets, buildings, and public events for sale to newspapers and clients. Streaks and blemishes in the glass come from the gradual breakdown of the original coatings, a common sign of age in negatives of this period. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
