Ida Tarbell, whose history of Standard Oil had been running in *McClure's* magazine, is among the subjects named for this February 1906 *Puck* cartoon, which casts reformers as medieval crusaders. The title turns the old Christian campaigns against Muslim forces into a fight against "graft," the corrupt dealings in politics and business that muckraking journalists were then exposing. Drawn by Hassman for *Puck*, the satirical weekly known for its large colored lithographs, the piece shows how closely the public followed investigative reporting in those years. The medieval imagery was a common device in American political satire of the period.
