Lozowick's lithograph, titled *Guts of Manhattan*, looks beneath the city's surface to the wiring, metalwork and welded structure that keep it running, and the catalog lists welding and wire among its subjects. Lozowick, a Russian-born American artist, had worked in Precisionist and machine-age styles since the 1920s and was drawn to industrial structure and the labor that built it. The print dates to 1939, a decade when the Depression had made construction and industry central subjects for American printmakers. Its pencil signature and the credit to printer George Miller mark it as a considered work by the artist and his collaborator.
