The wood engraving *Travelling Balloon*, dated 1834, presents the balloon as a means of transport rather than a spectacle of ascent. It was printed in *Mechanics' Magazine*, a London weekly aimed at engineers and skilled workers, in volume 4 that year, on page 274. During the 1830s, ballooning drew wide public interest, and technical writers often debated whether balloons could ever be steered, a question that stayed unresolved for decades. The print is a useful record of how that hope was pictured for readers of the period.
