This full-length portrait pairs Theodore Roosevelt, shown at left, with General Leonard Wood, a combination that recalls their shared history with the Rough Riders. Wood led the regiment during the Spanish-American War in 1898, with Roosevelt serving as his second in command before succeeding him. By 1920, the year the Library dates this print, both men were prominent in Republican politics, though Roosevelt had died the previous year. The record's copyright notation suggests the photograph was registered for publication, a common step for portraits of public figures in that period.
