Named for the Concord coach, the heavy passenger vehicle built in Concord, New Hampshire, this color halftone centers on a type of carriage that later carried travelers across the American West. The scene itself is set in the New England of 1770 to 1790, when stagecoaches linked towns and stopped at taverns for fresh horses and a meal. Painter E. Percy Moran worked in a colonial revival manner, and Brown & Bigelow of St. Paul issued the picture as a commercial print around 1911, so it shows how early twentieth-century Americans imagined their colonial past.
