Thomas Hart Benton's "Goin' Home" shows a wagon loaded and moving through rural North Carolina, a rare Benton lithograph tied to a Southern landscape rather than his more familiar Missouri or Midwestern scenes. The print was made from a 1929 painting that grew out of an original drawing from 1928, and it was printed by George Miller and distributed by Associated American Artists, the New York firm that brought Benton's lithographs to a wide audience during the 1930s. Benton's rolling forms and sweeping curves give the wagon and its surroundings a sense of weight and slow motion, a style that made him one of the leading voices of American Regionalism in the years of the Depression.
