The title on this color lithograph names Shakespeare's tragedy *Othello*, the story of a Moorish general whose trust is poisoned by his ensign, Iago. It was printed by Stafford & Co. of Netherfield, a district of Nottingham where the firm produced theatrical posters for British playhouses and touring companies. The record dates the sheet only to between 1920 and 1930, a decade when bold color lithography was a common way to advertise live drama before cinema drew away much of the audience. The catalog number, 5204, is printed on the sheet and helps identify it among the firm's output.
