Few things on this board are as specific to a single town as this silkscreen announcement for a watercolor show at the Westfield Athenaeum in Westfield, Massachusetts. The Federal Art Project, one unit of the Works Progress Administration, employed artists during the Depression and sponsored exhibitions like this one in towns across the country. Its silkscreen unit, centered in New York, turned the process into an inexpensive way to produce bold, flat-colored posters, and the date stamped on the back, March 1937, suggests the print was filed or circulated a few months after it was made.
