Known as the "Jersey Lily" after her birthplace, Lillie Langtry is the subject of this reproduction of a painting by George Frederick Watts, one of the most admired portraitists of Victorian England. Langtry became a celebrated figure in London society in the 1870s, and her striking looks drew painters and photographers before she turned to the stage. The caption card gives no date for the print, so its exact production period is uncertain. Still, reproductions like this one carried the likenesses of famous sitters well beyond the galleries and studios where the originals hung.
