Willemstad, the capital of Curaçao in the Dutch Caribbean, is the setting for this 1904 card, and its most unusual feature is the small street car that runs down the town's chief residence street. The card was issued by H.C. White Co., a publisher known for travel stereographs, and its paired images were meant to be viewed through a stereoscope for a three-dimensional effect that was popular with armchair travelers at the time. The record gives little more detail about the street itself, but the view offers a glimpse of an early street railway in a colonial port town.
