The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that operated from about 1899 to 1932, produced this glass negative as one of thousands of images it sold to newspapers and magazines. The record gives only the title "Military Show," with no date and no verified details about the event, so the exact location, performers and occasion remain unknown. Early military exhibitions of this kind often drew crowds to display drills, equipment and uniforms, and press photographers of the era prized such scenes for their strong composition and visual interest. The George Grantham Bain Collection now at the Library of Congress preserves these glass plates, which are valued today as a record of American news photography in the early twentieth century.
