Two carved stone lions guard the entrance to a palace in Seoul in this stereograph, one of the paired guardian figures that stood at gates across Korea. Taken around 1903, when the Korean Empire still held court in Seoul and the old royal compounds remained the center of government, the card is numbered 21 and copyrighted by C.H. Graves as a commercial stereo view. The caption tags name marble and lions, but the record notes that this information comes from an old caption and has not been verified. Seen through a stereoscope, the two slightly offset images merge into a single three-dimensional view of the sculpture and the gate behind it.
