A father combing his hair, not a grand public event, is the subject of this 1929 stereograph, which is what sets it apart from the dramatic scenes often seen in the period's views. The Keystone View Company, based in Meadville, Pennsylvania, issued many cards like this one, and its "citizenship" titles were typically intended for classroom use, showing everyday domestic routines as models of American home life for immigrants and young students. Viewed through a stereoscope, the two nearly identical photographs merge into a single image with depth, a format that was popular in schools and homes in the early twentieth century.
