In this 1923 portrait, Mary Pickford appears in connection with *Rosita*, the Ernst Lubitsch-directed costume romance in which she played a street singer in old Spain who wins the attention of a king. By the early 1920s Pickford was one of the most famous performers in the world, and her name alone drew audiences to films like this one. The print comes from the Frances Benjamin Johnston Collection, which preserves the work of a photographer who documented many prominent figures of the period.
