This glass negative shows Theodore Roosevelt arriving in Buffalo, New York, with a companion the caption identifies as Col. D.S. Alexander. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption cards written by the Bain News Service that have not been checked against other sources, so the exact occasion is uncertain. Roosevelt had a lasting tie to Buffalo: he took the presidential oath there in September 1901 after William McKinley died. Bain's agency sold photographs like this one to newspapers, which explains the familiar arrival-scene framing.
