Published on the cover of *Judge* on January 3, 1925, this color halftone by John Held carries the title "They're off!" and fits the magazine's playful tone. Held became one of the best-known illustrators of the Jazz Age, drawing flappers and sheiks with angular figures and a wry eye for the fashions and manners of the 1920s. *Judge* was a weekly humor magazine with a wide readership, so the cover offers a glimpse of how popular print portrayed young men and women and the car-centered leisure of the decade.
